The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental option, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.

This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
