President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were âdevastatedâ.
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
The president stated heâs proposed a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the state National Guard.
âI said: âWhen youâre able, because thatâs a hard experience, visit the White House. Weâre going to pay tribute to her,â Trump addressed the press. âAnd similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.â
Attendees assembled over the weekend at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the state guard as part of Trumpâs government program to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
âShe was the type of pupil that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired people around her,â Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstromâs previous school, informed the Associated Press. âShe was kind, considerate and always willing to support those in need.â
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with one count of murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The tragedy prompted the administration to halt asylum applications and halt providing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is âin a critical fightâ, the stateâs leader the governor mentioned on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed the program that she aimed to visit Wolfeâs family.
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the military.
âShe had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,â Morrisey addressed the gathering at the vigil. âThough her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact thatâs going to be remembered always.â
