Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Pizza CEO Exits Following Move Into Chicken.

A head of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who indicated the United Kingdom might have reached maximum pizza demand while broadening the chain into poultry items has been ousted after disagreements with its board.

Leadership Transition

Rennie is leaving after only 24 months in leadership, and will be replaced on an interim basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Nicola Frampton, while Domino's looks for a new leader.

Rennie, who served at Domino's for a substantial period, had sought to pivot Britain's leading pizza takeaway chain towards poultry-based products, commenting recently there was not “significant expansion” left in the British pizza industry. He said chicken was the most rapidly expanding menu item in the international market.

Governance Friction

It is understood that there was friction between the CEO and the directors over his strategy and business vision, although the company's announcement said he was departing “through mutual consent”.

Recent Product Launch

In September, Domino's launched its poultry product line – which Rennie called a “major strategic shift” for the company – and is testing it in 210 outlets in the North West region and the province.

While the firm is still intending to launch it across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as intended, it considers chicken products as complementary to its core pizza business.

Board Statement

Ian Bull, the company chairman, stated: “The board believes that there are a number of opportunities to enhance value and value creation in our primary operations. We are focused on identifying the ideal CEO to oversee the disciplined execution of that development approach.”

Industry Challenges

Earlier this month, the pizza delivery giant, which has 13 million customers in the British Isles, said sales declined by one and a half percent in the third quarter. In the summer, it cautioned that the food delivery sector had “intensified” as it blamed weaker consumer confidence in the run-up to the budget and rising wage costs for disappointing revenue and a significant fall in six-month income.

Other pizza operators are also experiencing difficulties. Another major chain revealed the closing of 68 restaurants a recently, after the business behind its outlets faced financial collapse.

Health Initiatives

Trying to keep up with market shifts towards healthier eating, Domino's has introduced light products, such as its light base range of bakes below 400 calories as well as plant-based and wheat-free pizzas. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 kcals. A large cheese and tomato pizza has 2,171, while a individual has under 1,000 calories.

Interim Management

Nicola Frampton has been with the company since 2021, and had a background at the betting firm a well-known operator. It is thought that she prefers not to take on the chief executive role on a full-time basis.

She commented: “Our team has a several ongoing expansion and operational projects that we will be concentrating on implementing at a rapid rate.”

She added these included ongoing development on the organization's procurement system and product development, and its rewards program.

Domino's is also without a full-time CFO until March 16, when Andrea starts from the drinks company C&C Group. Until then, Richard Snow serves as temporary CFO.
