Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
