Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have ā€œnothing more to add at this timeā€.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
